The largest poker tournament in the Southern Hemisphere came to a close after David Gorr won the Aussie Millions Main Event along with AUD $2 million.

The 68-year-old Gorr is a very interesting story since he only had around $160,000 in casino poker cashes prior to winning this event. In fact, Gorr has mainly been a recreational player over the years, who works a day job as a computer mainframe specialist for an insurance company.

But from the outside looking in, you’d never know that the Melbourne native wasn’t a professional live or online poker player as he easily moved through the 721-player field and onto the final poker table. The final table, on the other hand, wasn’t quite so easy for Gorr since he underwent a lengthy heads-up battle with runner-up James Keys.

When heads-up play began, Gorr held a 6:1 lead in poker chips; however, Keys didn’t go down without a fight. He battled back to even before taking a huge pot off of Gorr after hitting a two pair with K-5. Down 13 million chips to 1 million, Gorr never gave up as he battled back to take the lead over Keys again. The final hand provided a great finish to this four-hour-long heads-up match as Keys went all-in on a board of 7-6-3-K; he flipped over 7-3 for two-pair while Gorr showed K-4 for top pair. However, the river card was a 4, which gave Gorr the miraculous win.

Here are the final table results from the Aussie Millions Main Event:

1. David Gorr, $2,000,000
2. James Keys, $1,035,000
3. Jeff Rossiter, $700,000
4. Michael Ryan, $450,000
5. Randy Dorfman, $325,000
6. Samad Razavi, $225,000
7. Chris Moorman, $175,000
8. Patrik Antonius, $130,000

In addition to Full Tilt Poker pro Patrik Antonius, there were also a couple of other Full Tilt pros who made deep runs in this event after taking a few days off from earning 27% rakeback deals. Howard Lederer placed 34th while Erick Lindgren finished 33rd in the Main Event, which shows that many of the world’s best players are at Full Tilt taking advantage of their fantastic rakeback offer.
